He was a major player in so much of the custom knife world in the early days. His achievements over the years are unparalleled. As with all knives, the steel is only as strong as the hand that wields it—and perhaps with no knife is this so true as the kukri. The kukri—aka khukuri—has a reputation so legendary that even some non-knife enthusiasts recognize the knife when they see one. To understand how the kukri got its reputation, let’s examine the people who used it and help grow the legend. You can’t mention the kukri without mentioning the hand behind the blade: the Gurkhas. The history of the Gurkhas dates back several centuries to the small mountainous kingdom of Gorkha, located in what is now central Nepal. Corey Reynolds wanted to reduce the weight of his bowie blade without doing the standard tapering of the steel. Since he watched Rambo movies as a kid, the thought of sawteeth came to mind. The fact he was using copper-mai from Baker Forge & Tool gave him the idea to make bits of copper appear on the teeth and he arrived at this issue’s cover knife (page 74). A new lady came into Corey’s life and, with her family and all, he had put knife-making on the backburner for a while. Nobody would question the straight-up fact that A.G. KR Suit Challenges Switchblade Act Knife Rights has filed a federal law-suit challenging the constitutionality of portions of the Federal Switch-blade Act, according to a release on the Knife Rights website kniferights.org. Originally enacted in 1958, the Act restricts the introduction of automatic and other select knives into interstate commerce. The lawsuit also challenges the ban on possession of autos on Native American reservations and in U.S. territories. In addition to autos, the definition of a “switchblade knife” includes gravity knives and butterfly knives. Named as defendants are Merrick Garland, Attorney General of the United States, and the United States Department of Justice. The lawsuit, Knife Rights, Inc. v. Garland, was filed in late spring in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. The lawsuit alleges that the…

Like many boys his age, Corey Reynolds grew up watching Rambo movies. Now 43, he’s been making knives about three years and decided he wanted to make a knife with a Rambo look—and what better way to do that than with a sawback bowie?
