These days, even small boats are equipped with GPS, but chronometers are still found on yachts of all sizes, both to give a decorative nod to the past and to demonstrate the remarkable engineering that enables a mechanical clock to remain superbly accurate while tossed about at sea. I was born and raised in Split, Croatia. As a child, I spent summers at our house in Omiš, where I would go fishing with my grandfather in his 4.5-metre boat.
