Attempting to improve upon something that's already been done well is always a tail order. Such is the case for builders competing in the crowded market segment where 30-metre motor yachts reside. The last few months have been some of the most intense I can remember in my sailing career. September, in particular, was incredibly busy with back-to-back events starting with SailGP Saint-Tropez, followed by the America's Cup preliminary regatta in Vilanova, Barcelona, and finishing in Taranto, Italy, with a second SailGP event. As if to match the hectic schedule, the performances went front one extreme to the other. Operated by Com lux Aviation and custom-outfitted, it is available for around $14,000 (£11,400) an hour, and thanks to its long range, the in-flight party can last up to 12 hours at a time. HYDROGEN AIRCRAFT Aircraft powered by hydrogen face an uphill battle in terms of technological challenges, but they are compelling, with zero emissions and potentially much longer flying ranges compared to electric aircraft.
