'It takes a village to raise a child,’ is a statement that’s often used. I can attest it has proven to be true throughout my childhood. Being raised by a single mother who worked long hours as a psychiatric nurse meant that sometimes relatives and aunts in our neigbourhood chipped in and offered help. That made my childhood so colourful and filled with love. So much so that I didn't even draw a distinction between my blood relatives and neighbours. Dear Editor, My letter is about financial literacy amongst young black people. We come from a generation where financial literacy was not a big deal - our parents never got the opportunity to learn about how to make, keep and make money work for you. As young black people we need to educate ourselves about wealth creation, investing in stocks, property, cryptocurrency, dividends, buying shares, creating multiple streams of income and income-producing assets in general.
