He Saved His Brother From Drowning! Matthew Grover, 12, was on a family vacation in Lahaina, Hawaii, when his younger brother and another boy jumped into the deep end of a pool to retrieve a ball. Both of the younger boys quickly realized their mistake, as neither was a strong enough swimmer to get out of the water. Matt jumped in, grabbed his brother, quickly guided him to the side of the pool and helped him get out. Matt’s dad entered the water and swam with the other boy to the side of the pool, where the boy’s parents helped him exit the water. No one was hurt during the incident. A shark can lose and replace thousands of teeth in its lifetime. There are more than 500 different species of sharks. Sharks play a crucial role in marine ecosystems as top predators, helping maintain the balance of aquatic life. SCOUTS RE-CREATE AN EPIC JOURNEY ACROSS NORTH CAROLINA. Crossing a state line can be a big moment, like when you leave your home state for the first time. Or maybe it serves as a milestone during a cross-country road trip. For a group of 21 Scouts, reaching the South Carolina state line marked the end of an impressive 170-mile trek, during which they hiked, biked and paddled across North Carolina. “It was breathtaking,” says Kayla Oxendine, 17, a Life Scout from Troop 1447 of Laurinburg, N.C. “Crossing the line seemed so unreal. Brendan Karabensh, 17, Henry Cavanagh and McCoy Bondelid, both 16, and Nathaniel Jacob, 15, were canoeing on a Scout outing in Oregon when a person on the road alerted them to an elderly hiker downriver who had fallen on a steep slope. The Scouts soon spotted the injured hiker crawling on his hands and knees. Henry, McCoy and three adult leaders hiked up the slope to reach the hiker. They stabilized him and treated him for shock and other injuries. As Brendan brought up more emergency supplies, the group decided that using a makeshift stretcher to move the hiker would be too risky.
