Mix It Up
Trail food is part of your 10 Scout Basic Essentials. A snack gives you the nutrition and energy to keep going during a trek. Some healthy choices for trail food include summer sausage, cheese, jerky, nuts, seeds, granola and fruit. Trail mix puts many ingredients together so you can get a taste of something sweet, savory and salty with every handful. Here are some ingredient ideas for making your own trail mix:
• Cereal or granola
• Nuts (almonds, peanuts, cashews, walnuts)
• Seeds (sunflower, pumpkin)
• Dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, banana, blueberries)
• Pretzels or chips
• Sweets (candy-coated chocolate, coconut flakes)
• Seasonings (cinnamon, garlic powder, cayenne powder)
