ANCIENT TATTOO TECHNIQUE
Ancient tattoos, such as the mummy's on the next page, would have been created with a stick-and-poke technique, meaning the artist dipped a needle into ink to create the picture one dot at a time. Tattoo needles could be made from bone, horn, thorns, or metal, while the ink was often made from burnt plant material or soot. And yes, it would have taken hours and hours of needle pokes!
