Characteristics that many carnivorous dinosaurs had in common
1 Walking tall
All carnivores walked on two legs.
2 Sharp teeth
Carnivores’ teeth were often jagged like steak knives, perfect for attacking prey and tearing flesh. Spinosaurus, for example, had as many as 64 pointy teeth that measured between 8 centimetres and 25 centimetres long.
3 Pack hunters
Some palaeontologists think that carnivorous dinosaurs, such as tyrannosaurs, may have hunted in packs.*
4 Sharp senses
More advanced predators, such as Troodon, evolved large eyes and binocular vision,** which made it easier for them to see their prey, especially at night. Scientists think carnivores were also very good at sniffing out prey and rotten flesh to eat.
