WHEN THE BEGINNING OF THE year comes around, one show is on everyone’s mind: Lone Star Throwdown. As the saying goes, “Everything is BIG in Texas,” and the same motto goes for this show. Even the location for the show has to be BIG, because the Lone Star Expo Center at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds proved again that it can handle the over 1,900 pre-registered cars/trucks that showed up this year. IT’S NOT OFTEN YOU SEE A 1971 Chevy C10 Fleetside longbed, but it just so happens Morris “Mo” Campbell has a full-built custom that he likes to call “Longbox.” Mo’s passion for custom trucks and hot-rods goes back as long as he can remember, back when he’d help his dad and uncle work on cars, build model cars, and play with hot wheels in the dirt as a youngin’. I remember when I saw my first patina C10 sitting in a field in Arkansas with my childhood best friend, Abe. His mom drove us out to the middle of nowhere for who knows what, but when we got there Abe said, “Hey man, you gotta check out this truck around back.” It was a ’72 green and white two-tone Cheyenne C10 that was essentially untouched and looked like it had been sitting for a very long time. RANDAL FLANAGAN LIVES THE LIFE MANY OF us dream of: He builds incredible vehicles of all types while someone else covers the costs—and he gets paid to do it. THE NAME “Dirty Laundry” plays on Andy Scruggs’ appliance business, and as you can see, this ’67 is anything but “dirty.” Andy purchased this 1967 Chevy C10 on his 40th birthday. The truck was in a shed for more than 10 years and had 87,000 original miles on the inline-six with three on the tree. After getting the truck home from Atlanta, Andy devised a plan for a complete tear-down. Hunt & Gather Andy began his plans by having a local body shop assess the ’67, and an agreement was made. He disassembled everything except the cab and sent it off for bodywork. During the bodywork phase, Andy started to gather his parts for a complete build. WE CAN’T HELP IT—WE JUST can’t! We love getting together as a community with like-minded folks to chop up about our latest and greatest. That was the best part about this year’s C10s in the City down in Atlanta this April. Every six months or so, the local C10 crews get together to show off what they’ve been up to over the winter and break out of hibernation to enjoy each other’s company. The Summerhill neighborhood in Atlanta has been host of the last several get togethers. IN 1980 GM OFFERED THE V22 DELUXE FRONT appearance package on its light duty trucks. The rectangular headlights and unique bezel gave it a distinct look that was intended to smooth the transition from rounded lines to the squarebody design that would begin with the next model year. That unique look is what tempted Todd Dryer to purchase a rolling chassis and a mixed batch of truck parts that he found for sale by a friend.
