Tell us a little about your latest publication. Tie book is about a young boy, Rohan, who struggles to read because of the adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) he faces in his daily life. He befriends a book called ‘How to Read’ that helps him to understand and manage his Shadows, which are manifestations of Rohans trauma. Even though die book takes on challenging topics, it is full of magic and hope. What sets it apart is that Rohans journey is a guide, not only for children and adults experiencing ACEs and toxic stress but also for others to understand how to offer them support. Spices are so entwined with Grenada’s identity that there’s even a little stylised nutmeg on the national flag. It’s far and away the Caribbean’s biggest spice producer, and one of the largest in the world. Nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and a myriad of other pungent cooking essentials are the country’s biggest exports. And, of course, that means they abound in the island’s favourite recipes. Spice production has been a mainstay of the Grenadian economy for nearly 300 years. Hurricanes Ivan and Emily in 2004 and 2005 destroyed many ancient nutmeg trees, but the industry recovered and remains thriving. The processing and grading of spices, largely done by hand, provides significant employment across Grenada. INTERCARIBBEAN LAUNCHES GUYANA SERVICE 12 return flights a week from Barbados to Georgetown interCaribbean Airways has commenced flights to Georgetown, Guyana, the carrier’s 27th destination. The service, which launched on 17 December, flies 12 times a week between Barbados and South America. The schedule enables sameday business trips between the two countries, while Barbados will also serve as a hub to other parts of the region for travellers from Guyana. The new route will be a fillip for Guyana’s oil and gas sector, with companies previously having to charter flights to bring around 2500 staff in on rotation. Chef Joachim Joseph – born and bred in St Georges, Grenada - has always experimented with food when cooking for himself. But, he admits, “up to this day, I still take advice from my mum for dishes I’ve never cooked before”.
