Staff reporter CLOETESVILLE Primary School in Stellenbosch has become the first school in the country to receive an Electrical Performance Certificate (EPC) after it recently attained its A rating for electrical consumption of 17 kWh per m². Stellenbosch University (SU) spin-out company GreenX Engineering is celebrating having successfully equipped the school with energy-saving technology that ensured it would get its EPC certifications. These government departments were also ordered to pay their service providers. This is contained in the PSC quarterly report from January until March this year, released by commissioner Mike Seloane. According to Seloane, the PSC received 334 complaints during the fourth quarter of 2020/21. It said 185 related to alleged irregularities in personnel practices such as appointments, transfers and other career management in the departments. Two soldiers and a police officer were killed when their vehicle hit an explosive device in northeast Ivory Coast near the border with Burkina Faso, the military said yesterday. Army chief of staff General Lassina Doumbia said that on Saturday a reconnaissance patrol “was the subject of a complex attack” in the restive region. “It was an ambush using an improvised explosive device which caused one of the vehicles to blow up. I am often amazed by the prices people are prepared to pay for items I consider totally value-less. I read recently about a historical bottle of wine that was sold on auction for R500 000. Tens of thousands of Spaniards protested in Madrid yesterday against government plans to pardon 12 Catalan politicians who were convicted over the region’s failed independence bid in 2017, a move the demonstrators see as a threat to national unity.
