THE National Employers’ Association of South Africa (Neasa) has filed a petition at the Constitutional Court following the Labour Appeal Court’s dismissal of its applications to extend the wage deal signed with the Metal and Engineering Industries Bargaining Council (MEIBC). Last September, Neasa opposed the gazetted extension of the deal in the Labour Court and argued that it could not afford it. The wage agreement at issue is a 6% increase to the minimum rate in the metals and engineering sector. A high court judge has awarded R5.5 million to a house buyer whose email accounts were hacked in a case of “business email compromise”. The judge ruled that giant law firm ENS Africa had failed in its duty of care when it did not warn her about the threat posed by hackers.
