AN ATHLONE woman said her sickly 75-year-old mother was wrongfully arrested and mistreated by police.
Shafieka Petersen, 53, said her mother, Joshlyn Mias, 75, who suffers from dementia and can barely walk, was taken by members of the Athlone SAPS on Thursday after drugs were found on the premises of their Begonia Road, Silvertown, home.
Petersen said her brother, who lives on the property, is involved in criminal activity and was arrested on Wednesday.
On Thursday, several police officers arrived and arrested Mias only.
Petersen’s father pleaded with the police not to arrest the elderly woman, and to instead take him.
