THE search for a missing teen from Bonteheuwel has ended in tragedy after his body was found in the morgue, with a gunshot wound to the head. The family of Roezayg Butler, 17, have been left distraught after receiving a call from the police that his body had been found. Butler was last seen leaving his grandmother’s house on October 3. RETAILERS have been criticised for keeping essential food prices high, despite production costs continuing to decline. The SA Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) said the profitability of retailers was reflected in the exorbitant earnings of retail executives, while the General Industries Workers’ Union of SA (Giwusa) said retailers continued to exploit the poorest through slave wages. This was after the Competition Commission raised concerns about the retailers’ slow response in reducing food prices in several essential food value chains. The commission’s Essential Food Price Monitoring Report, release last week, indicated that consumers were not benefiting from the potential savings in essential food items. South African Revenue Service (Sars) has to date received more than 1.2 million applications for tax directives for withdrawals from the Savings Withdrawal Benefit of the two-pot system. Of the 1 213 646 total applications, 1 148 729 tax directives were approved for funds to be released. A total gross lump sum of R21.4 billion has been paid out to date. THE City has announced it will be doing planned work in certain areas that will result in water supply disruptions from today until Friday. The planned work is critical maintenance that needs to be done on the water-supply infrastructure. Water and sanitation mayco member, Zahid Badroodien, said residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly. Residents have also been urged to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure.
