From the moment little Andrew Freund Jr was born, on 14 October 2013, he suffered at the hands of his mother. JoAnn Cunningham, then 30, had taken heroin during her pregnancy – and baby Andrew, or AJ as his family called him, cried constantly and suffered with tremors. His body was withdrawing from his mother’s drugs. At just days old, the doctors gave AJ morphine to alleviate his symptoms and he spent the first month of his life in hospital.
