Bouncing my baby boy on my lap, he giggled and gurgled in delight. Only, as I glanced around the room, I couldn’t help but feel worried.
It was August 2021, and I’d taken Ralph, then 6 months, to a mum and baby group.
While all the other tots had fresh faces and rosy cheeks, Ralph’s skin looked yellow and pale in comparison.
‘Am I being paranoid?’ I fretted to my hubby Doug, then 32, when I got home.
‘Let’s take him to the doctor,’ he said, wanting to put my mind at rest.
The GP agreed.
‘It looks like jaundice,’ he said, referring us for tests.
It’s common in newborns, but Ralph was older.
‘There may be a problem with his liver,’ the doctor said.…
