A previously unidentified shipwreck, discovered in 2019 off Sussex, England, under 104ft (32m) of water, has now been identified by a UK-Dutch team of maritime archaeologists as the 1656 Dutch warship Klein Hollandia, writes John Greaves.
The ship was owned by the Admiralty of Rotterdam and was involved in all major battles in the second Anglo-Dutch war (1665-1667). Over the past year, specialists from Historic England and the Cultural Heritage Agency of The Netherlands (RCE) have established its identity through dive evidence and analysis of the wood samples.
