Jolie Brise, for me, is the most iconic of all British classic boats, possibly worldwide. Her fame is certainly global, unique in her three Fastnet victories and two Blue Water Medals (equivalent to Oscars for cruising sailors). To my mind, no other boat can challenge those extraordinary achievements. First flagship of the Ocean Racing Club, now the mighty Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), she has survived two world wars, but plays a different role today, as a diminutive giant among the tall ships, both competitively and inspirationally, introducing youngsters from all walks of life, and the occasional oldie like me, to the magic of seafaring.
