Hot Stuff Hot rods and custom cars from the USA and UK scenes are to feature in a new exhibition, Hot Rods & Kool Kustoms at Coventry Transport Museum. The special exhibition will showcase a wide range of cars from the hot rod heyday of the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s, with Guest Of Honour, Jaguar Land Rover Design Director, Ian Callum, at the opening event’s own 1932 Ford Hi-Boy Coupe set to feature in the exhibition. CFTECH Variable Cam Timing The variable valve timing (VVT) is a major part of the whole package. We’ll examine the port shape later but it’s probably one of the major areas that highlights the necessity for VVT — working via oil control in-conjunction with ECU management. The 1.6 features the ability to move both inlet and exhaust cams to optimise timing; not just for supreme emissions control but also so that the engine will simply work and the car drive well using almost extremes of other components and design. As in other engines, the cams will move within a window of 60 degrees of advance or retard and will swing around almost wildly, controlled by the ECU for performance and economy. GET MILES Roger Albert goes big for Wales The organisers of the Roger Albert Clark Rally have revealed a impressive route that includes a leg in Wales as part of a monster 280-stage mile route for the world-famous event which takes place on November 10-13.The rally kicks off on the Friday with 40 stage miles in Wales on Friday from a start venue in the Welsh borders. Saturday’s route will include the classic Yorkshire forests before heading north and west into Kielder in a day covering around 100 stage miles.
