EVENT REPORT ALL FORD DAY ALL FORD DAY It’s Summer in the southern hemisphere — the perfect time for a Ford show at Sydney Dragway! All Ford Day in Sydney was able to be held this year, with COVID restrictions being relaxed just in time. With over 1000 cars on display this event acts as a history lesson about Ford’s presence in Australia. From Model Ts to the last of the locally produced Falcons, mainstream models were well represented. As well as locally produced cars there were those with US or European heritage which were modified to meet the requirements of the Australian market. There were also plenty of fully imported cars brought along by enthusiasts who wanted something a bit different. Two Sierra RS500s and a trio of Escort…

BRAKES 1500s and some early V4s came with the slightly-smaller Girling P14 callipers, while most V4s had P16s and solid discs, also found on later Lotus and GT Cortinas and Escort Mexicos amongst others. They’re good brakes which will haul up even a tuned car if fitted with a decent set of Fast Road pads. Get a set of braided brake hoses made up at the same time and you’ve got some good front brakes. Moving up, Capri 2.8i vented discs and matching M16 callipers fit (with a brake hose swap), as will most alloy four-pot calliper kits designed for Escorts and Capris. Out back, 1500s had 8 inch drums while V4 models came with 9-inch drums and as these are very effective, good condition ones can be left well…

CFTECH INTERIOR While the Pre-Crossflow-powered cars came with very ’60s two-tone interiors, the V4’s were much more subdued with a more conventional dash and bigger (but less comfortable seats). The 2000E was the best-equipped with a centre console, black vinyl trim and four-gauge dash, so an easy upgrade would be to fit this lot — but you have to find it all first! Otherwise Mk1 and Mk2 Cortina seats bolt straight in, or track down some sportier seats from a later Ford (or other marque) which can be retrimmed to suit if necessary — black leather Recaros from a 4x4 Sapphire Cosworth would look pretty good, we reckon. Yes, all those details relevant, as that’s exactly what I wanted and a solid one of these for sale simply wasn’t for sale in the UK for years! After spending its whole life with one owner it was snapped up by a member of Ford’s official museum at their plant in Cologne where the car was originally built.
