When your dad brings home from work exotic machinery such as a Bristol 403, Mk7 Jag, an Alvis Coupe and a Citroen Big Six Avant, it would be hard not to become hooked on the whole automotive scene. This is the scenario Gavin Whitehead found himself in back in the 1960s, a decade when his dad ran a successful car sales pitch. “He mainly bought and sold everyday runabouts like Crestas, Cambridges and Morris Minors, but the high-end cars fascinated me the most,” recalls Gavin. There was one exception which boiled down to any car that wore a blue oval badge. “I just loved the Zodiacs, Zephyrs and Consuls and of course, the Anglia 105E,” he smiles, “and I was quite partial to a Cortina, too!”
