THE RECORD INDUSTRY executive who signed Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen, Neil Young, The Kinks, Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Prince, Madonna, The Grateful Dead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, R.E.M. and many others who became stars has died in his sleep of natural causes at the age of 95. A self-effacing giant of the industry, Mo Ostin was known for the unflagging support he gave to his artists.
Born Morris Meyer Ostrofsky, the New Yorker worked at a number of record labels, including Reprise, Warner Brothers, Verve and DreamWorks. He was chairman and chief executive officer of Warner/Reprise from 1972 to 1994. Ostin was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2003 by Neil Young, Paul Simon and Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels.
