If it weren’t for getting emotional, we would all buy 2017 Kias and drive them until they died. If we were cheap and lived somewhere with reasonable fuel prices, we might instead pay $2000 for a 1992 Jeep Cherokee and get 125,000 miles and 13 years out of it without anything more than servicing, a rad, batteries, tyres and brakes. I know, because I've done it!
Buying that Jeep was originally a decision untainted by any emotion at all. Good price, very strong structure, locking diffs and low-range 4WD, tow bar, roofrack, lots of boxy room inside although quite small outside. Fast and handles quite well. Cheap, easily available parts. Good enough.
