Strawberry-Cabernet Barbecue Sauce WORKING TIME 20 minutes TOTAL TIME 40 minutes MAKES 2 cups 1 tablespoon canola oil½ medium onion, chopped Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper4 ounces strawberries, trimmed and quartered (about3 /4 cup)½ cup Cabernet Sauvignon⅓ cup apple cider vinegar¼ cup sugar¼ cup ketchup2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce1 tablespoon pure maple syrup3 cloves garlic, chopped½ to 1 jalapeño, seeded and diced 1. OBJECT LESSON: Justin Boot Co. Cowboy Boots WHAT TO KNOW: At just 20 years old, Herman Joseph Justin founded his men’s footwear business in 1879 inside a Spanish Fort, Texas, barbershop. Cattlemen sought his hand-sewn leather boots for their quality and comfort, as well as his signature stitching across the boot’s shaft. As the company evolved, so did its designs to include more colorful stitching, silver conchos, and 30-plus leathers. By 1915, Justin boots were sold around the world, with sales staying strong through the Great Depression and into the emergence of dude ranching in the mid-’30s (Roy Rogers and Gene Autry were both customers!).
