The wanderlust bug bit me hard. As part of a Marine Corps family, I consider myself lucky to move around often because it has enabled me to visit so many places. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is high up on my list of all-time favorites.
My husband and I, along with our 5-, 8-, and 11-year-olds, spent a full week exploring the park. We left in awe of Mother Nature.
Established in 1916, the park is home to two active volcanoes, Kilauea and Mauna Loa. The park covers 335,259 acres of diverse ecosystems, ranging from lush tropical rainforests to the arid Ka‘u Desert. Be prepared for hot, dry, wet, windy and cold weather. We experienced it all!
