The third book in our library is Pride and Prejudice, a romantic novel of manners written by Jane Austen in 1813. It is one of the most popular novels in English Literature. Mr Bennet, owner of Longbourn estate, has five daughters. His property can only pass from male heir to male heir, so at least one of his daughters must marry well to support the others, once he dies. His second-eldest daughter, Elizabeth, the protagonist of the book, learns the difference between superficial goodness and actual goodness as she overcomes her prejudice, finding true love.
