Castelli say their new Do.Di.Ci jacket is the “spiritual heir” to the iconic racer’s favourite, the Gabba, though it’s designed for high breathability rather than water resistance.
Steve Smith, Castelli’s global brand manager, explains the thinking behind the new design. “The original Gabba was created for professional riders racing in the rain, but given its phenomenal success, we see that many cyclists use it in conditions it wasn’t designed for – cool and dry.”
The latest, 2024, version of the Gabba, the Gabba R, is super-aero, while still being waterproof, wind-resistant and very packable. But with minimal insulation and a skintight fit, plus a sky-high price (£340), it’s definitely one for racers (hence the ‘R’ in the name).
