The departure of top sprinter Lorena Wiebes at the end of 2022 spelled disaster for DSM-Firmenich, or so people predicted. Under the Dutchwoman’s reign last season, the team counted an astonishing 28 victories, all but six of them belonging to Wiebes herself.
This year, without Wiebes, the team needed to step up. And step up it has. The focus still lies in sprints, except now Wiebes’s former understudy, Charlotte Kool, is leading the line, and has shown that she can beat the world’s best on the flat.
Away from sprinting, DSM-Firmenich will enter this month’s Tour de France Femmes with GC ambitions, too. Juliette Labous’s performance last year often gets overlooked, but it is worth reminding that the Frenchwoman was the top-placed home rider in the overall standings, finishing fourth…
