Matthews placed adverts in Cycling Weekly claiming that his were the ‘world’s best wheels’, and guaranteeing that if they went out of true he would true them for free.
Famous customers to grace his shop included Robert Millar, Sean Yates, Tony Doyle, John Woodburn, Mandy Jones, Ian Cammish, Michael Hutchinson, Wendy Houvenaghel… and fellow Scouser Alexei Sayle.
