Primož Roglič glides in on his time trial bike, midway through stage 20 of the Giro d’Italia. His bike change looks rehearsed to within an inch, with the Slovenian calmly unclipping off one bike, getting onto his lighter road bike, and being pushed off. It takes about eight seconds.
A minute later, Geraint Thomas repeats the process. The Welshman glides in, unclips, but takes time to change his helmet – something Rogliž did not do – and steadily gets on his road bike, and is pushed off. It takes about 16 seconds.
“Rogliž’s bike change was outstanding, whereas the Ineos one was pedestrian in comparison, he lost so much time,” Aerocoach founder and TT expert Xavier Disley tells Cycling Weekly.
