The Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana was won by Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious) after a dominant performance in Spain by the 25-year-old. He started the race on the back foot, after his team lost more than a minute in the opening stage TTT to Lidl-Trek, but he clawed this back over the following four days.
On a mountainous stage two, the Colombian beat his team-mate Pello Bilbao to the line, with João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) following in their wheeltracks. Stage three saw Buitrago lead the bunch home behind Iván Romeo (Movistar), before he flew away to victory on stage four, beating the chasing bunch, to pull on the leader’s jersey. The race ended with a sprint, won by Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek).
