It’s time to say buongiorno, or rather përshëndetje, to the first Grand Tour of the year. If that second word doesn’t look familiar to you, it means hello in Albanian, the language of the country hosting this year’s Grande Partenza. It’ll be less pasta and pizza, more peshk në zgarë – grilled fish – and byrek pastries. A whiff of Italy is never far, though. This year’s starting point, the coastal city of Durrës, may be on the other side of the Adriatic sea, but its Roman amphitheatre and Venetian tower give a nod to what will follow.
