Former Spanish national champion Oier Lazkano has pleaded innocence after he was provisionally suspended by the UCI over ‘unexplained abnormalities’ in his biological passport. Last week he was revealed to have been suspended, and his then team, Red Bull, announced that he was no longer riding for them. The abnormalities occurred during Lazkano’s time at Movistar, 2022-2024, according to the UCI; it was also when his most notable results occurred, including victory at the Clásica Jaén Paraiso Interior in 2024, and at the 2023 Spanish National Championships. Lazkano joined Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe at the beginning of 2025, but had not raced for the team since Paris-Roubaix in April. How closely do you track and monitor your training data? I am always focused on the numbers, so that I can see how I’m doing and do some benchmarking. As Bunting, Hall and Weaver rode their winding routes round Britain’s coastline, others were tackling it by sea. In July, Polish Olympian Sebastian Szubski became the fastest person to circumnavigate Britain by kayak, in a time of 37 days and six hours. To achieve this, Ekoï created a number of 3D models and subjected them to CFD and windtunnel testing at different speeds and yaw angles. By the time you read this I’ll be safely on holiday, near Calpe in Spain – a location that is well known for its gentle autumn climate, quiet roads, challenging climbs and pro team training camps. I picked up two silver medals at the 2025 UCI Track World Champs last month, my first Worlds with Great Britain. Standing on the podium in the team’s colours was a huge moment, something I’ve dreamed about since I first started racing. It is with a bittersweet feeling that 18-year-old Carys Lloyd will pass on her title as the youngest rider on the WorldTour next year. Born on New Year’s Eve in 2006, the Movistar rider balanced her first season as a pro with her final year of A-levels, scoring top grades as well as two UCI podium finishes. Having cycled for 60 years, I’ve found that in recent years, the unwritten rule of cycling etiquette has diminished almost to the point of non-existence. The time of acknowledging your fellow cyclists with cheery bonhomie as they reeled you in has long gone. I recently received news of a rider who, new to clipless pedals, did what most clipless newbies do at some point and fell over at a set of traffic lights. What most of us never had to endure was this particular rider’s older sister. She checked out the glorious spot and the nearby shops, and secured CCTV footage from some security cameras that showed the incident from three angles, with sound. She edited these into a video that she sent to every contact in her brother’s phone. She took the best still images and had them printed on coasters.
