I get asked this at least a few times a week: “How do I get my truck into Diesel World Magazine?” There really was never a great answer to this. In the end, you just need to get my attention somehow, or get the attention of one of our regular contributors. Most did this at events, or by reaching out via social media. Well after responding to these questions for years, I decided we should do something a little different. OEM NEWS 246,000 RAMS RECALLED—TO BE FITTED WITH CP3’S Who knew a factory CP3 swap option would ever be on the table for ’19-’20 Ram owners? Nearly a quarter of a million ’19-’20 model year heavy-duty Rams (as well as cab-and-chassis models) equipped with the 6.7L Cummins are being recalled for the CP4.2 high-pressure fuel pump’s propensity to self-destruct. Complaints about CP4.2 pump failures led to an investigation being conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but Stellantis—the parent company of Ram, Jeep, Chrysler, and Dodge brands—is said to have initiated the recall independently, and prior to the investigation. Either way,’19-’20 Ram owners will soon have tremendous piece of mind in knowing that the old reliable CP3 is fueling their Cummins rather than the infamous CP4.2. SOURCE: AMP.FREEP.COM…

CARB BEGINS DEVELOPMENT OF TIER 5 EMISSION STANDARDS FOR OFF-ROAD ENGINES Seeking to reduce NOx and PM emissions by 50 to 90-percent (depending on the engine power category) in the 2028-2030 timeframe, the California Air Resources Board held its first public workshop on developing Tier 5 emission standards for off-road engines. Under consideration are new, more stringent emission limits, a new low load certification test cycle, and extended emission durability periods. The only holdup lies in the needed cooperation of the U.S. EPA. Without it, many California customers will presumably purchase less stringent (and more affordable) Tier 4 engines out-of-state. FORD TRUCK SALES UP 25-PERCENT Strong inventory has helped make Ford the nation’s top-selling automaker for the second straight month (September and October)—the last time that happened was 23 years ago. According to Ford, total pickup truck retail sales went up 25-percent over September, with F-series specifically seeing a jump of 14.2-percent. On top of that, Ford saw a third consecutive month with over 30-percent of retail sales coming by way of customer orders. Some 77,000 new orders were placed in October. Although overall truck sales are still down 8-percent from October of 2020, Ford seems to be leading the field when it comes to both sales and availability.…

PREP…AND A BILLET 6.0L BLOCK Whether he and his team come to compete in U.C.C. or the ODSS drag races (perhaps both?), Canadian Redneck, Shawn Ellerton, promises to return to the Ultimate Callout Challenge in 2022. A closed northern border the past two years has forced him out of the UCC competition. This time, he’s bringing a whole new engine program with him—a 6.0L Power Stroke with a billet-aluminum block from Warren Diesel. Never known to be afraid of “sending it,” look for Shawn to go after a few 6.0L records in addition to eyeing a top finish at U.C.C. 2022.…

QUICKEST DURAMAX PICKUP ON THE PLANET We’ve seen Brett Deutsch’s Duramax-powered ’69 C10 go 8’s in the past, but on October 30th he and his Pro Mod Chevy set a new record at Byron Dragway. Thanks to a 7.28-second quarter-mile, Brett’s C10 is now the quickest Duramax-propelled truck on the planet. After his 3,800-pound ride catapulted out to a 1.10-second 60-foot, Brett pulled off one of the most impressive passes in diesel history. Don’t mind the fact that the truck’s 175-mph trap speed was a bit off the pace of a 7.2-second pass.
