Nikon has added a new premium supertelephoto lens to its range which is designed for handheld wildlife, sports and aviation photographers. The Nikkor Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S is just 278mm long and weighs 1,390g, making it the lightest in its class, according to Nikon. The zoom becomes the third in the Nikon Z lens line-up to offer a focal length of 600mm – and in terms of pricing falls in between that of the Nikon Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S and the Nikon Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR. Canon has announced three new lenses for its mirrorless EOS R line of cameras, taking the total number of lenses available from 43 to 46. The new lenses include a Canon RF 200-800mm F6.3-9 IS STM telephoto zoom for sports and wildlife and an RF-S 10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM ultrawide angle zoom for Canon’s APS-C format mirrorless cameras such as the EOS R7 and R10. The latter is a spiritual successor to Canon’s EF-S 10-18mm for its APS-C DSLRs but is both smaller and lighter, weighing just 150g. It’s crucial to be mindful of how hard and soft light interacts with different skin ages, tones and textures. It is hardly surprising that cities are popular subjects for photography. Many of us live in or close to metropolitan areas, meaning that we spend a large portion of our lives surrounded by buildings, street lights and vehicles. It is a surprise, therefore, when we discover just how complex the urban environment is when capturing accurate colour and exposures, leading to many disappointing shots.
