Potatoes South Africa (PSA) hosted its annual research symposium in July in Parys, Free State.
The theme was ‘Roots in the Ground with the Future in Mind’.
In addition to discussing the latest research on potato diseases, pests and viruses, soil health, agronomy and other potato research topics, the symposium aimed to prioritise innovation in the sector.
PSA is the representative body of South Africa's potato industry, comprising potato producers, processors, marketers, and other role players. The organisation aims to promote a sustainable potato industry by addressing various industry challenges, provide support to producers, conduct research, and facilitate collaboration among industry stakeholders.
According to PSA, by addressing key areas of innovation, the symposium looked to promote sustainable and progressive practices that would propel the potato industry forward.
