Red Meat Industry Services (RMIS) launched Phase 1 of a new traceability platform on 1 November, an initiative set to boost transparency, efficiency, and market access across South Africa’s red meat industry.
Designed to strengthen every stage of the supply chain from farm to retail, the platform is aimed at addressing disease management, combatting stock theft, and expanding trade potential.
Speaking to Farmer's Weekly, RMIS chief operations officer Dr Phillip Oosthuizen said Phase 1, showcased recently to key industry stakeholders, focused on the identification and numbering of production units across the red meat value chain, including communal land, farms, auction houses, feedlots, and abattoirs.
