The Fast Car Festival takes place on the last weekend in July and will feature cars from all over the world, with the honoured marque for the inaugural event being Lotus. Yet as well as the cars, the focus is as much on having fun, with a live stage and a full-on festival atmosphere. One thing we’re always asked about car speakers is, how can some come in at 40 quid or so and others run into thousands? Well, generally speaking, the answer is pretty simple. Aside from the research involved from the company with its name printed on the cone, it’s mostly down to the materials used and the production costs. You see, different speakers are specifically engineered for different markets. Most entry-level speakers for example, are factory-produced, using good quality but relatively easy to acquire materials. Other high-end kit might be handmade, for example, in a temperature and humidity controlled environment, from components that cost an absolute fortune. There’s a reason why military planes are often painted grey. Well, three reasons, really. First of all, if you paint the underside of a plane grey, it can blend in with the sky more easily when seen from below. Secondly, and similarly, if you paint the top of it grey then it can camouflage itself on the runway tarmac when viewed from above. And thirdly, and most significantly, if you slather your fighter jet in radiation-absorbent iron-ball paint, it’ll be pretty much invisible to radar. The Car Audio Security Open Day has grown into something of a legend over the past few years and now attracts some of the UK’s best and most varied show and audio cars.
