SAMPSON THE DOG
You may have seen a quirky dog graphic on the side of the Motorbase Focuses – this is Sampson the dog. Sampson was David’s Great Dane, who could always be found sat proudly outside the Motorbase workshop door. In fact, as you can see from some of the archive photos on these pages, David’s first business – Dane Motor Company – was named after his beloved Sampson.
Sadly Sampson died in 1992, but his legacy lives on in the current BTCC cars. Every time the team finishes in a podium position a ‘Sampson sticker’ is applied to the car – with bronze, silver, or gold laurels denoting third, second, or first place finishes. The team hopes Sampson will be making several appearances on the car in 2016…
