FORDS IN MOTORSPORT BRITISH TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP MB Motorsport celebrates another podium finish in what proved to be a tough weekend for the Focuses at Snetterton Words JAMIE Photos BTCC MB Motorsport claimed its fourth podium finish of the season after a fantastic drive from Ollie Jackson in race two at Snetterton. A double top-ten in race one and a charge through the pack from Jake Hill in race three earned further points for the team as they leave round two in third place in the BTCC teams’ championship. Going into the first race as championship leader, Jake Hill was carrying the maximum ballast of 75kg. DUNLOP SALOON CAR CUP Words and photos PAUL LAWRENCE Four Sierra RS500s arrived at Silverstone for the opening races for the Dunlop Saloon Car Cup. Paul Mensley came closest to toppling the Nissan Skylines with a fighting second place in race two in his lockdown-built RS500, which runs the livery of Murray Carter’s 1988 Bathurst 1000 car. “It’s coming and it’s getting faster and faster,” said Mensley of the car built up from a rare motorsport bodyshell by Premier Motorsport in Bury St Edmonds. Silverstone was only the second race weekend for the immaculate car. Sean Brown and Dave Coyne/Mark Wright both bagged two top-six finishes, but completely out of luck was father-and-son pairing Graeme and James Dodd. Silicone is an inorganic polymer consisting of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Silicone hoses are stronger and more reliable than traditional rubber-style hoses. No, not that one – a V6, rear-wheel drive version… Escort Cosworth; the iconic monster hatch that featured four-wheel drive and a massive turbo. Well, all except a pair of rear-wheel drive versions that not many people know about. The two cars were built in autumn 1993; one with the RS2000 unit as a possible motorsport car and this one, with a 24-valve Cosworth V6 from the Scorpio. WHAT'S NEW FORD STUFF The latest gear on the Blue Oval scene MOUNTUNE PUMA ST & FIESTA ST POWER UPGRADES £575 (m235), £675 (m260) Mountune have recently released two new power upgrades; the m235 and a further-developed m260. A first for the Puma ST, the m235 upgrade boosts both power and performance, and is easily installed using mountune’s SMARTflash app. The m235 upgrade delivers increases in both power and torque by 35PS and 30Nm respectively, now boasting a peak power output of 235PS (232bhp) and 350Nm (258lb.ft) of torque. FORDS IN MOTORSPORT BRITISH RALLYING Words and photos PAUL LAWRENCE When the British Rally Championship and the Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship shared the billing at the annual Neil Howard Stages Rally at the Oulton Park race track, there was one of the best entries ever seen for such a rally. From 144 starters, 74 were Ford, with 30 top-spec Fiesta R5s and similar, 23 older models (mainly Escorts) and 21 Fiestas, largely the youngsters in the BRC in modern 1.0-litre models. On a hot early summer day, the pace was just as hot, as eight special stages were set out on the circuit, its access roads and low-grip rally school stage.
