A court case out of Pennsylvania is calling into question whether the law requiring those in the business of selling firearms to have a federal firearms license (FFL) is constitutional, considering the new criteria set down by the U.S. Supreme Court in last year’s New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen case. In my 20s, during the 1960s, I began to appreciate collectible World War II firearms, though I still shot them as well as studying and admiring them. Probably as a carryover from reading comic books about the Blackhawk Squadron’s combat against Nazis, at the top of my want list of WWII pistols was a Luger (aka P08). I was as surprised as anyone by Ruger’s sudden embrace of the 5.7x28mm cartridge with the recent launch of their Ruger-57 pistol. On the one hand, it seemed out of place for Ruger to suddenly get behind FNH’s PDW cartridge which, for all intents and purposes, appeared dead in the water.
