CITIZEN science (CS) is a term that first appeared in the late ‘70s and it refers to members of the general public engaging in scientific work, in collaboration a scientist. Perhaps the most well-known CS program in Australia is the "Aussie backyard bird count". But it’s not just bird watchers that can be involved, there’s all sorts of CS programs underway, and luckily for us, there are opportunities for recreational anglers as well.
As far as I’m aware, CS fish research opportunities are available in NSW and WA (Research Angler Program), Qld (Suntag) and Vic (Angler Diary Program). Hopefully, SA and the NT have, or soon will have, CS programs as well.
