TOP FIVE TIPS FOR WINTER
1. Fish the estuaries right now. May and June can yield brilliant fishing despite the chilly weather. Things start to get really difficult for estuary anglers in late July and August.
2. Lighten your approach. Lighter leaders, finer main lines, and small jig-heads and, if you’re bait fishing, unweighted rigs and small, fine-gauge hooks, will all improve your catch rate.
3. Fish slower and deeper. In winter, fish aren’t generally on or near the surface feeding on prawns and tiny baitfish. Flathead, bream and other species are in deeper water and more susceptible to slowly-worked lures.
