This year, we collaborated with Cardijn College photography teacher Leah Hooper and her students, who were invited to submit photographic portraits that express an emotion or document a moment in time.
Working in Cardijn’s new photography studio, the students used DSLR cameras in manual mode to create expressive portraits. Bubbles helped capture candid, dynamic shots, while fast shutter speeds froze motion with clarity. Using props such as mirrors, sporting equipment, coloured backdrops and still life objects, the students experimented with reflections, shadows and poses to produce dramatic, emotional images.
Throughout the project, students refined their understanding of composition, camera techniques and lighting, developing both creativity and confidence.
The students’ interpretations always inspire us.
