Nick Lyons (author, editor, and founder of Lyons Press) once wrote, “The best fishing stories aren’t really about fishing.” This certainly applies to Casting Forward, Steve Ramirez’s beautifully written and multilayered first book.
On the surface, Casting Forward is indeed about fly fishing the waters of the author’s beloved Texas Hill Country. Many of the book’s 21 chapters bear the names of storied Hill Country waterways, including the Guadalupe, Medina, Pedernales, Sabinal, Llano, Blanco, San Gabriel, San Marcos, San Saba, Frio, and Nueces rivers.
