Sure, Pele scoring 1,000 goals may have been pretty impressive, but that was nothing compared to Mark Rapsey’s feats.
The 49-year-old hit the back of the net for the 2,000th time in his career while bagging for Wadebridge Town in their Cornwall Veteran’s League tie with Lanreath, after a long wait to finally achieve the notable landmark.
“I was on 1,999 in October but then I injured my knee,” Mark reveals to FFT. “A consultant told me to give it all up. I said, ‘I can’t, I only need another goal!’”
Like Pele’s 1,000th, Rapsey’s milestone strike was a penalty, although unlike Pele, Rapsey’s total does not include friendlies.
