Big rivers are conducive to fishing a two-fly setup, and Oregon’s McKenzie, above the town of Springfield, is just one of them. California’s Sacramento River, in the Redding area, is a great river with large redsides. It’s got plenty of big water that’s straightforward to navigate and fish, and there are many places to stay nearby as it’s right on Interstate 5.
The tailwaters of Utah’s Green River are home to upwards of 20,000 trout per mile below the dam. Cutthroats dominate but rainbows and brown trout can also be caught. Dutch John, Utah, is a good place to stay.
