Our Kaokoland adventure started with a hiccup or two, and we only arrived at our first campsite for the trip, Oppikoppi in Kamanjab, after 5 pm. Maybe it was a sign of things to come. Before leaving Windhoek, we had to ensure a hired 4x4 was overland-ready, buy last-minute provisions (with roof racks too high for most shopping centres’ parking areas) and find ATMs that would accommodate our large cash withdrawals.
Then, an hour before reaching Kamanjab, one of the vehicles developed fuel starvation symptoms. We weren’t even in Kaokoland yet!
