Babylonstoren outside Paarl has launched South Africa’s first community-based garden app that allows gardeners to share their knowledge.
After creating a profile, you can enjoy other avid gardeners’ pics and interesting titbits, questions and tips, and share your own garden adventures and questions too. “South Africa’s most complete plant database” is divided into sections for Food plants, Bulbs, Climbers, Flowers, Foreign, Fungi, Fynbos, Grass and Restios, Groundcovers, Orchids, Plectranthus, Shrubs, Succulents, Trees, Veldkos, Water plants and Waterwise. The entry for each plant features a picture, description, growing information and soil preferences. Best of all? You can follow Ernst van Jaarsveld, Babylonstoren’s master botanist, and direct your questions to him and the other gardeners on the estate.
The app is available free for Android and Apple devices.
