Out on the lagoon, flocks of pale pink flamingos seem embroidered on the turquoise water. Closer, a herd of eland browse quietly, lifting their heavy heads from time to time to watch me. The view from the top of Seeberg never disappoints, and on this near-windless winter afternoon, it’s pulling out all the stops.
You can see most of the West Coast National Park from Seeberg: Postberg to the west, Geelbek visitor centre to the south; Schaapen Island is hidden towards the north, just offshore from the town of Langebaan.
